Sierra Leone: Woman to spend 36 months in jail for wounding of victim

Justice Abdul Rahman Mansaray of the High Court in Kenema has convicted and sent one Mariama Kamara, a Housewife, dwelling at No. 10 Sall Street, Nyandeyama in Kenema to jail for thirty six (36) months for her intentional wounding of one Christian Kanneh.

The court concluded that on February 13, 2020 at Sall Street, the accused wounded Christiana Kanneh with intent to do her grievous bodily harm. She was found guilty and she pleaded for mercy.

Before giving Judgment Justice Mansaray, gave consideration to the brief facts of the case by the state counsel and the plea in Mitigation by the Defence counsel praying for him to temper Justice with mercy. Having considered the court of Appeal case APP 8/2003 concerning a guilty plea and mercy, he further noted that the convict as a first time offender who has not wasted the time of the court by pleading guilty upon arraignment and then  sent the accused to Jail for thirty six (36) months.

The matter was prosecuted, by Momoh Lansana, state counsel and customary law officer in the Eastern Region whilst the Accused was represented by Defence Counsel, Patrick Kamara of Legal Aid Board for Kenema and Kailahun Districts.
