Sierra Leone: Curfew continues to be lifted till further notice

The National COVID-19 Emergency Response Centre (NaCOVERC) has on Friday, November 27, 2020 put out a statement announcing and an indefinite extension of the lifting of curfew until when it would be otherwise advised.

The statement came four weeks after October 26, 2020 when the Government of Sierra Leone temporarily  lifted a curfew which it  had instituted (11: 00 pm – 5:00am).

In their statement NaCOVERC informed the general public that it was the 35th week since the Coronavirus broke out in Sierra Leone, and expressed cautious satisfaction that the United States Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has listed Sierra Leone as a low – risk Country.

It went on to advise members of the public to maintain social distancing, wash their hands regularly and wear facemasks properly whenever they are in public places, maintaining that the precautions mentioned above had proven to be effective public health tools in combatting the deadly pandemic.

“As we approach the festive season we advise members of the public to celebrate the holidays responsibly and stay away from crowded events. In this vein, anyone wishing to organize a large scale event should contact NaCOVERC   for assessment of the proposed event and determination of its guidance and decision,” NaCOVERC said in the statement.

NaCOVERC also informed the public that it had enhanced its vigilance at the International airports at Lungi and other mainland border entry points to ensure that no new COVID-19 case is allowed into the country.

“We appeal to all and sundry to cooperate with NaCOVERC to achieve this critical goal in the interest of us all,” they admonished.

In the statement NaCOVERC further expressed gratitude on behalf of the state to all patriotic men and women who work on a daily basis having sleepless nights just to keep COVID-19 in check, adding “Let us continue to have them in our prayers. Let us similarly remember the 74 souls that have succumbed to the Coronavirus disease.  May their memories be blessed and their souls rest in eternal peace.”
