Recently, the 2021 Music Television (MTV) Base Awards (Mamas) has reportedly stated that the “Listeners’ Choice” award will give music fans the opportunity to have their voices heard, and that majority of the finalists in that category would be determined by votes on local radio stations and social media, to select the best publicly-voted musicians from different African countries.
Monde Twala, the Senior Vice President and General Manager at ViacomCBS Networks Africa (VCNA), said in a press statement that, the “Listeners’ Choice” award ensures that the voices of music lovers across diverse country on the continent were recognized.
“Nominations of musicians for the category of Listeners’ Choice award are based on votes on local radio stations and social media. Music fans should voice their opinions it is not a selection,” he emphasized.
He said that music fans still have the opportunity to vote for their favorites.
The MTV Africa Music Awards was established in 2008 by MTV Networks Africa to celebrate the most popular contemporary music in Africa.
The Award ceremony was to be virtually hosted by the American iconic and legendary Music Producer, DJ Khalid, on February 20 in Kampala, Uganda, but has been postponed till further notice.
The announcement was made by the organizers without giving any reasons for its postponement, but promised to keep fans updated.
