Sierra Leone: JVJ Memorial Fund supports Well Woman Clinic

The Jestina V. Jones Memorial Fund (JVJMF) has on Friday, March 19, 2021, provided Le12 million grant to the Well Woman Clinic to support breast cancer screening programme.

The Secretary of JVJ Memorial Fund, Dr. Teddy Jones said the since the Fund became operational, they had been supporting the Clinic with funding on numerous occasions,  adding that with their support the Clinic has made new development in supporting mammography for breast screening, chemotherapy and they have embarked on pilot cervical screening.

“This year, we are donating two million Leones specifically to support Cervical Screening Programme and ten million Leones towards usual Breast Screening program,” Dr. Jones said.

He mentioned that the JVJ Memorial Fund started operations in 2016 after the death of his wife (Jestina V. Jones), adding that in remembrance of her they decided to establish the organization that would serve as a living memory of her.

He added that they did their first donation in the tune of Le 900,000, adding that last year they also supported the clinic with Le8 million.

He cited that the organization gets it support from family members and well-wishers.

A beneficiary of the JVJMF support, Marionette Adams said that since she was diagnosed with Lump in the breast, the Well Woman Clinic has been given her drugs which were procured with funds provided by the JVJMF, free of cost.

“I am currently on medication for Lump in the Breast. The Doctor advised that until the Lump grows before it could be operated on. Hopefully by the end of the year I would have arrived at the stage for operation,” Adams said.
