Gbalamuya Border, Kambia District, March 26, 2025—Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Alpha Sesay, conducted a pivotal visit to the Gbalamuya border crossing between Sierra Leone and Guinea. During his visit, he engaged with John B. Amara, the National Revenue Authority (NRA) Assistant Commissioner for Border Controls and Management, and his team.
The discussions underscored the critical importance of securing national borders while facilitating lawful trade and travel. Attorney General Sesay emphasized the need for a unified, inter-agency approach to combat transnational crimes such as drug and human trafficking. He called for enhanced collaboration among police, customs, immigration, and intelligence services, alongside improved information-sharing mechanisms.
“This is a significant step in fortifying our border management systems. It is in our collective interest to safeguard our people, resources, and nation from transnational threats,” Sesay stated.
The visit highlighted the essential role of intelligence-sharing and cross-border cooperation in addressing illegal activities that threaten Sierra Leone and the broader West African region. Sesay stressed that securing the nation’s borders requires the combined efforts of government officials, law enforcement agencies, and the general public.
This engagement reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening border security and protecting citizens from transnational threats. The Attorney General’s visit served as a timely reminder of the ongoing need for vigilance and collaboration to ensure Sierra Leone’s borders remain secure.
