Alonzo Teah Abasi popularly known as Alonzo, a renowned Sierra Leonean and Liberian singer and songwriter, has said on Saturday July 23,2022 that he would increase his scholarship program next year.
His comment came after awarding scholarship to 15 pupils at the Baio International Preparatory Primary School at the Regent community in Freetown.
According to Alonzo, awarding scholarships to pupils had been one of the ways he could help his community to develop. “Communities cannot be developed just by themselves, but we humans make it happen. Since education is the key to success, I decided to offer scholarships to pupils at Baio Preparatory Primary School at Regent. We can make a better change, better societies, and better future leaders if we could come together and work as a team,” he said.
“I am feeling so proud today as all the 15 students on a scholarship program which I have fully funded at a local community school in Freetown a few years have progressed. Next year we go again with an increase to the number of students. We rise by lifting others, congratulations guys.”
He encouraged every person that has the opportunity to help the community in one way or the other.
Alonzo is a musician who started his career in 2003 after taking part in a singing competition on a song on ‘HIV/AIDS’ which was organized by the US Embassy and won it.
In 2006, Alonzo released a mixed tape including tracks like ‘Innocent’, ‘Letter to the President’, ‘Can’t Believe’ and ‘Liberian Angel’ that gave him recognition in the music industry.
In 2008, he released his debut album containing ‘Angel’,’Africa Unite’, etc.
