Sierra Leone president Julius Maada Bio has relieved the Attorney General and Minister of Justice Anthony Brewah Esq. of his duties and appointed Mohamed Lamin Tarawalley Esq. in his stead, according to a statement from the Office of the President.
It was not clear why Brewah was sacked, but according to government sources, this could not be unconnected to the selection of BaimbaMoiforay alias LAC for clemencywhich was granted by President Bio on January 1, 2022.
Moiforaywas convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment, but had onlyserved six years in prison before his release.
The Former Attorney General was a member of Prerogative of Mercy Committee which is headed by the Vice President.
Brewah was sacked after he was seen in a photo with LAC at his residence atTiama.
State House Press Secretary and Presidential Spokesman, Keketoma Sandi is quoted as say that, the process to grantpardon to Moiforaywas irregular and flawed, adding that the Prerogative of Mercy Committee did not meet certain criteria.
The President has therefore revoked the clemency of LAC and has instituted an investigation to look into the process leading to the granting of pardon to Moiforay.
