The Ballanta Academy of Music and Performing Arts (BAMPA) in Freetown marked a major milestone on October 18, 2024, by launching two original songs during a celebratory event at the Logie Wright Auditorium. These tracks—“Enjoyment Dae Na Ya” and “Ar Feel Something”—are the fruits of a four-day Music Fusion Workshop held at the academy, blending Sierra Leone’s traditional and modern music styles.
“Enjoyment Dae Na Ya” invites listeners to embrace joy, while “Ar Feel Something” speaks to resilience amid life’s challenges. The songs combine modern and traditional instruments, adding fresh energy to Sierra Leone’s music scene.
Dr. Julius Spencer, BAMPA’s Board Chairman, praised the creativity of the local artists, highlighting the cultural significance of the workshop, while Deputy Minister of Tourism Dr. Khadijatu Kamara applauded BAMPA’s contribution to promoting Sierra Leonean heritage globally.
Sponsored by the Playing for Change Foundation, the workshop emphasized collaboration and cultural fusion, inspiring participants to experiment with new sounds by integrating instruments like saxophones and drums with bubu, a traditional music style.
The launch event also featured performances by the Groovy Colors Band and the Tamaraneh Social Club, both celebrated for their contributions to the fusion of contemporary and traditional music.
This initiative showcases the potential of Sierra Leonean musicians to both preserve and innovate within their cultural traditions, connecting local talent to global audiences.
