Ballanta Academy to Hold International Music Evening

The Ballanta Academy of Music and Performing Arts, will hold International Music Evening on Saturday February 25, 2023 at the Bintumani Hotel, Aberdeen, Freetown with the aim of bringing different cultures and heritage together and promoting art across the world.

The academy has been hosting the Evening every year, bringing performances from different parts of the world. The event usually creates a friendly environment for music lovers as well as musicians and creates opportunities to network with one another.

 Music as a powerful art always brings people together no matter the race, nationality and ethnicity.

In 2022, the academy held similar event which saw performances from China, Guinea, India, The Philippines, Turkey, Egypt etc. that brought various acts including singing, dancing, etc. through which their cultures were expressed.

In one of her statements, Dr. Kitty Fadlu-Deen, co-founder of the Academy, said that the idea of holding such an event was to enjoy each others’ music and dance in a joyous time, and learn from each other.

Ballanta Academy is the central institute for music in Sierra Leone which offers different courses in music: music theory, practical, voice, dance, instruments like the guitar, flute, piano, organ, music composition etc. The academy is aimed at improving and developing music across Sierra Leone, and West Africa as a whole.

While it has a mission to exist and provide a centre for music education and entertainment of indigenous and international content through practice training and research to the people in Sierra Leone, thereby, providing a platform for nurturing talents to be internationally recognized. The academy has recently started offering music classes for WASSCE, and will soon start to offer classes on theatre.
