On October 18, 2024, the Ballanta Academy of Music and Performing Arts (BAMPA) hosted a captivating evening of poetry and music at the Logie Wright Auditorium, showcasing the talents of local artists while addressing critical social themes. The event drew attention to Sierra Leone’s cultural heritage, love, drug abuse, domestic violence, and climate change, blending artistic expression with social consciousness.
The performances, enhanced by the Groovy Colors Band, struck an emotional chord with the audience, underscoring the power of art to provoke thought and inspire change. Dr. Julius Spencer, Chairman of BAMPA’s Board, thanked the artists and audience, highlighting the academy’s mission to promote arts education in Sierra Leone. He expressed hopes for the event to become a regular feature to help nurture local talent.
Mrs. Elvira Bobson-Kamara, Acting Principal of BAMPA, praised the performers for their passion, emphasizing the healing and connective power of art. Poet Samuella J. Conteh, known as Mama Poetry, delivered an impassioned performance, encouraging others to pursue their love for poetry and the arts.
