Abass Chernor Kamara, a businessman, was on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, sent to Jailed by Magistrate Mark Ngegba of Court No1 after he was charge with one count of unlawful possession of dried leaves believed to be ‘kush’ (K2) contrary to section 8(a) of the National Drugs Control Act No 10 of 2008.
According to the indictment, the accused on Friday, August 18, 2023, at Second Bridge, Glouster Village in Freetown was found in possession of 33 wraps of dried leaves believe to be Kush.
When the charge was read, he pleaded not guilty.
Prosecution Witness No 1 Detective Police Constable 20091 Tinga Kamara attached to Mountain Police Division recognized the accused and recalled Friday, August 18, 2023 when an operational team led by Inspector Lamin Soko Kamara arrested and brought in the accused person together with 33 wraps of Kush.
He said that the matter was handed over to him for further investigation.
He said that on August 19, 2023, himself together with DPC 19799 Kamara M. A. obtained caution statement from the accused.
On September 7, 2023, he said, himself together with DPC 19799 Kamara M. A. obtained charge statements from the accused and charge him with the offense of unlawful possession of dried leaves (Kush).
The accused, who was not represented in court, during cross examination pleaded for Mercy.
Magistrate Ngegba refused bail and remanded the accused in prison while the matter was adjourned to October 18,2023.
