Thirty-one year old Maada Albert Jonathan Browne and Hassan Hallowell both businessmen, were on Wednesday 6th December 2023 remanded by Magistrate Mark Ngegba of Pademba Road Court No.1 for allegedly being in possession of huge quantity of ‘Kush’.
The accused persons made their first appearance in court and were arraigned on two counts of possessing the prohibited drugs without lawful authority contrary to section 8 (a) of the National Drugs Control Act 2008 Act No.10 of 2008 and possession of substance intended to be used for the manufacturing of drugs without lawful authority contrary to section 10 (a) of the same law. According to the particulars of offence on Wednesday 18th October 2023 at Wusum Hotel Bombali Shebora Chiefdom, Makeni in the Northern Province of Sierra Leone were found in possession of a loose quantity of ‘kush’ contained in black polyethylene bags weighing 1.2 kilograms without lawful authority.
Count two added that the accused persons on the above date and place were found in possession of precursor chemical, Acetone, contained in twelve transparent plastic containers with inscriptions, GULF spring water weighing 12000 millilitres, without lawful authority
When the charges were read and explained to the accused persons they pleaded not guilty.
The prosecution’s witness was present in court.
Meanwhile Magistrate Ngegba refused to admit the accused persons to bail, and sent the accused person to the male correctional center in Freetown and adjourned the matter to the 8th of December 2023 for further hearing.
