Freetown, September 14, 2024 — The Jui Vocational Training Center, a long-established institution aiming to reduce youth unemployment through skill development, has made an urgent call for government and NGO assistance to provide much-needed equipment. Established over two decades ago, the center offers training in various skills, including carpentry, catering, garra-tie-dyeing, tailoring, and hairdressing, helping many youths gain self-reliance.

Mohamed Bangura, the head of the center, highlighted the facility’s current challenges, stating, “We have only two sewing machines for our tailoring department. The youths in our community are eager to learn, but we lack the necessary resources. We urgently need sewing machines, carpentry tools, and other essential equipment.” Despite serving over 150 students, the lack of tools hampers operations.

The center has made a significant impact on students like Adama Sillah, who shared her personal transformation. “Thanks to the center, I can now sew and earn a living. I came here to avoid street begging and prostitution,” Sillah explained. She emphasized that empowering youths through vocational training could help curb crime, poverty, and other societal issues.

Issa Kamara, another student in the carpentry department, echoed the call for support, stressing the importance of adequate resources for their continued success. The center, a vital contributor to youth development, now seeks urgent assistance to sustain its mission.

The Jui Vocational Training Center continues to play a pivotal role in addressing unemployment in Sierra Leone, and with adequate support, it hopes to further its contributions to national development.
