Freetown, Sierra Leone – In an extraordinary accomplishment that has captured international attention, Mary Yei Yongai, a talented local makeup artist, has broken the Guinness World Record for the most cosmetic makeovers in 24 hours. Yongai’s incredible feat, where she applied makeup to 111 individuals, surpassed the previous record of 98 set by Martha Tilaar in 2005. The achievement was officially confirmed on September 17, 2024, by the Guinness World Records team, who congratulated her with the words, “Congratulations, you are officially amazing!”

President Julius Maada Bio was quick to celebrate this milestone, expressing his admiration on X (formerly Twitter). “Thank you, Mary, for your exceptional talent and resilience in showcasing the beauty of our great nation to the world. Your achievement inspires us all!” he stated, highlighting how Yongai’s success has shone a global spotlight on Sierra Leone’s emerging talents.

Yongai’s journey toward breaking the record began on February 4, 2024, when she received approval to attempt the challenge. Her determination and the unwavering support of her community played a crucial role in her victory. “This achievement would not have been possible without the love and support of those around me,” she reflected.

In addition to her burgeoning career as a makeup artist, Yongai is also a third-year student at Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone, where she is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communications with a focus on Broadcast Journalism.

Yongai’s accomplishment is a significant moment for Sierra Leone, showcasing the country’s talent on the global stage. Her record-breaking achievement inspires a new generation of creatives, proving that with passion and dedication, the world’s stage is within reach.
