Chief Minister Advocates for Radical Solutions at World Governments Summit

Dubai, United Arab Emirates – Sierra Leone’s Chief Minister, Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, has emphasized the urgent need for radically new solutions to drive inclusive growth and development across the African continent. Speaking at the opening session of the World Governments Summit on Tuesday, February  11,  2025, Dr. Sengeh addressed the topic: “New Economic Revolution: An African Perspective”.

Dr. Sengeh highlighted the necessity for different policies, institutional reforms, and radical social-democratic solutions that ensure progress for everyone. He asserted that inequalities cannot drive development, and infrastructural reforms must work inclusively.

He credited the significant progress in Sierra Leone to the exemplary leadership of His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, who has prioritized investments in human capital. Dr. Sengeh noted that government initiatives in education, gender equality, and good governance yield positive results. He stressed that a critical element of Sierra Leone’s development process is a focus on inclusion and impact.

“The President has introduced the concept of radical inclusion. It is not just a random idea but a necessity that the benefits of progress must reach everyone. Economic progress for a few will lead to chaos for the majority. A new economic revolution must impact everyone,” Dr. Sengeh stated. He also discussed Sierra Leone’s reforms to ensure its mineral resources benefit its citizens.

President of the African Development Bank, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, highlighted the significance of Africa’s youthful population, noting that with over 70% of its population under 35, Africa has the potential to be the workforce and innovation hub of the world. He emphasized the continent’s resources for the energy transition and their global impact.

Tony Elumelu, Founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation, also addressed the panel, discussing the tremendous investment opportunities in Africa.

The World Governments Summit, held under the theme “Shaping Future Governments”, is an annual event that gathers key policymakers and private sector stakeholders from around the world to discuss global issues.
