On Wednesday, February 12, 2025, the Choithram International Foundation awarded scholarship grants to 282 students from various schools across the country. The recipients included pupils from primary schools, as well as junior and senior secondary schools.
Harish Agnani, the Financial Controller of Choithram Group, disclosed that the scholarship program was initiated in 1967 by Pa Choithram and has been held uninterruptedly since then, even during turbulent times such as the Ebola and COVID-19 outbreaks. This year, the scholarship fund was increased to a whopping NLe260,000 from NLe250,000 the previous year.
Agnani emphasized that the scholarship initiative is part of the Choithram Group’s Corporate Social Responsibility. He urged parents to make good use of the opportunity and monitor their children’s progress to ensure they focus on their educational pursuits. Additionally, he mentioned that the Choithram International Foundation is supporting the Choithram Memorial Hospital, with efforts to upgrade hospital equipment. Recently, a team of German doctors performed 70 free surgeries at the hospital.
Chairperson of the Choithram Trust Fund Committee, Easterline Palmer, praised the foundation’s long-standing support for education in the country, saying, “They have been doing a wonderful job, and we must commend them.” Parents of the awardees expressed gratitude for the financial relief provided by the scholarships, noting that without such support, it would be challenging to support their children’s education, especially for single parents.
