The Principal Magistrate of the Padempa Road Court No.1, Mark Ngegba on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 sentenced Mohamed Osman Kamara and Yeanoh Kargbo to 12 months in prison each and pay a fine of Le2000 (New Leone) to the State, while the second accused Ibriham Bangura should serve a jail term of two years in each count and pay a fine of Le1,500 (New Leone) on each count to the State .
These accused were arraigned on four counts of unlawful possession of K2 (kush) contrary to section 48 (1) of The Pharmacy and Drugs Act 2001.
According to particulars of offence, the first accused Mohamed Osman Kamara, on Saturday, October 29, 2022, at kissy in Freetown was found in possession of 2411 wraps of “kush” weighing 230 grams without lawful authority.
Police also alleged that, on the same date at Shell, Kissy, in Freetown, the second accused Yeanoh Kargbo was found in possession of 1,500 wraps of “kush” weighing 144 grams without lawful authority.
The third accused Ibriham Bangura was also found in possession of 334 wraps of kush weighing 100 grams without lawful authority. He was also found in possession of sixty pieces of black solid drug placed in a transparent dispensary bag weighing 8 grams without lawful authority.
Shortly after the charges were read and explained to accused, they pleaded guilty to the offenses and thereby pleaded for mercy.
Magistrate Mark Ngegba in his wisdom sentenced the first and second accused persons to 12 months in prison each and should also pay a fine of Le2000 to the State. The third accused was sentenced to 24 months in prison and pay a fine of Le2000 to the State. The jail terms were to run concurrently.
