Correctional Service Gets New Leadership

President Julius Maada Bio has appointed Joseph John Senessie as the new Director General of the Sierra Leone Correctional Service (SLCS), with Madam Susan B. Coker as the deputy director general, according to a statement from the Office of the President.

Joseph John Senessie, affectionately known as Senzo, was born and raised in Sierra Leone. He has dedicated his professional career to serving his nation and beyond as a Corrections officer. His passion and commitment to serving humanity as a patriotic citizen are evident in his work. Senessie brings a wealth of experience in addressing and meeting the staffing requirements of the institution.

Senessie’s expertise is highlighted by his exceptional communication and leadership skills. He is well-known within the institution for his relentless and consistent high-quality work, determination, and intrinsic motivation. His ability to collaborate and engage effectively with co-workers has made him a vital asset to the SLCS.

Academic Background:

In 2008, Senessie earned his first degree (BSc. Agric Education) from NJALA University. In 2015, he obtained a Master’s degree in Public Administration from IPAM.

Professional Career:

Senessie joined the SLCS as a Recruit Prison Officer in January 2009. Throughout his career, he has held various positions, including Staff Officer HQ, Officer-in-Charge at multiple correctional centers, Deputy Regional Commander South, Regional Commander North East, Acting Director of Agriculture, and Director of Human Resources.

International Achievements:

Senessie has also pursued international training, including ASP-Cadet Officer Training in Kaduna, Nigeria (2011), Corrections Management Systems in Colorado, USA (2018), Training in Rice Planting Technology in China (2014), and serving as a United Nations Corrections Advisor in South Sudan (2021).

In September 2024, Senessie was promoted to Assistant Director of Corrections (ADC). On January 10, 2025, he was officially appointed as the Director General of the Sierra Leone Correctional Service.
