The National Council of Paramount Chiefs in Sierra Leone on May 7, 2022, held its regional consultation meeting which was attended by 190 Paramount Chiefs in Sierra Leone.
The meeting which was held in the conference hall of the Port Loko District Council attracted the Vice President Dr Juldeh Jalloh, Speaker of Parliament Dr Abass Chernor Bundu and many others.
Declaring the meeting open, the Chairman of the National Council of Paramount Chiefs, Hon. PC Sheku Amadu Tejan Fasuluku Sonsiama III, said that the meeting is forth regional consultative meeting they have held. He said the previous meetings were in Bo ,Kenema, Makeni and Port Loko Districts. He said the meeting was held in Port Loko to endorse some of the recommendations made in the previous meetings. He urged Paramount Chiefs to be very proactive in executed their duties.
Hon. PC Fasuluku Sonsiama acclaimed the executive of the National Council of Paramount Chiefs for their commitment in ensuring that issues raised by chiefs on the Customary Land Bill were expunged from the Bill.
The Vice President of Sierra Leone, Dr Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh reaffirmed government commitment to support Paramount Chiefs.
Institution of Chieftaincy in Sierra Leone is an important pillar in local governance. The institution was established in 1896 to maintain traditional norms and customs of the people at Chiefdom level.
