Cricket Sierra Leone Initiates Level 1 Training Course
On Wednesday, February 19, 2025, Cricket Sierra Leone (CSL) commenced a Level 1 Training course, featuring two ICC master educators from South Africa and Zimbabwe. The three-day ICC Cricket Coaching course aims to train 15 selected participants from across the country. This program is designed as a training of trainers who will subsequently train and benefit others.
The capacity-building program is expected to eventually train up to 500 coaches, including physical education teachers nationwide. The training is co-sponsored by the International Cricket Council (ICC), Cricket South Africa, and CSL.
Speaking to the head of media at CSL, Alie Sonta Kamara highlighted that this is not the first tutor training program to be held in Sierra Leone. The last training of coaches, without the authority to certify trainees, took place in 2015 and was facilitated by the late Gambian Johnny Gomez in Freetown.
CSL Board Chairman Francis Trevor Samura expressed enthusiasm about the training’s impact on the development of cricket in Sierra Leone. “It will give us enough coaches to train and certify hundreds of coaches countrywide,” he stated. He extended his gratitude to the ICC and Cricket South Africa for recognizing Sierra Leone for this essential training. He concluded by saying that this initiative would foster cricket growth within the country and help popularize the sport.
The training represents a significant step forward for CSL in building the capacity and expertise required to advance cricket in Sierra Leone.
