Daizy Princess Mujeh Abdulai, a contestant from Moyamba District in the Southern Province of Sierra Leone, on Saturday, October 21, 2023, won the Miss Sierra Leone Beauty Pageant after competing with 15 contestants across the country.
The contest was hosted at the Bintumani Hotel in Freetown.
This year’s competition was themed: ‘A Healthy Environment in a World of Beauty, Peace, and Integrity.’
Abdulai was awarded with a brand-new car and a considerable cash prize. She will be receiving a one-year monthly stipend from the organizers, and will be representing Sierra Leone on the international stage at the forthcoming Miss World competition.
Abdulai thanked the organizers of the competition and her fans for making her dream come true.
She said that being the winner of Miss Sierra Leone 2023, she would represent the beauty, culture, and resilience of Sierra Leone.
She promised to showcase the nation’s rich culture and heritage at a global stage, fostering a deeper appreciation of Sierra Leone’s unique distinctiveness.
She explained that from women empowerment to global issues, pageants offer an opportunity to share viewpoints, uplift social causes and be a strong voice of the unheard segments of the society.
She explained, “Modeling is no longer just for fun; it is a means of making money and showcasing one’s culture to the world. Through pageantry, people develop attributes such as grace under pressure, tenacity, resolution, discipline, initiative, and work ethic, among others. So, I am calling on everyone to support modeling and modeling agencies in Sierra Leone.”
Currently, Abdulai is a final year student at Fourah Bay College pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry.
She is a singer, songwriter, and dancer who started a career as an entertainer in her teen age after being motivated by her friends and her family.
The event was organized by the Miss Sierra Leone Limited and the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs to empower women in the entertainment industry of Sierra Leone.
