Defense submits no case for Mohamed Bangura

The defense for Member of Parliament for the main opposition All People’s Congress party representing Constituency 066 in Karene district, Mohamed Bangura, has presented a no-case submission, while the defense for the Chairperson of the party in Tonkolili district, Yabom Sesay, failed to do so.

During the hearing on November 8th 2022 at the Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown, lawyer for the second accused (Sesay), Lansana Dumbuya, told the court that they were supposed to have submitted the same application to the court, but they the laptop computer which had the said document malfunctioned on Thursday November 3rd, 2022 due to “erratic power supply.”

He requested for the court to accord him “more time” to prepare the document.

In response to the no case submission for the first accused, the lead prosecutor Yusuf Isaac Sesay stated that they would have loved to reply, but submitted that they rely on the evidence before the court.

Magistrate Mark Ngegba refused to concede to the request of the second accused time to prepare the document and adjourned the matter to November 8, 2022.

Both accused persons, Bangura and Sesay, are before the court on five counts.

Court records state that on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at Mathora village in Kholifa Rowala chiefdom in Tonkolili district, Bangura assaulted Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Gabriel Tommy while he (Tommy) was executing his duty.

On count two, it is alleged that they used insulting words against Tommy which could have provoked him to commit a breach of the peace.

Count three says the two accused persons intimidated Inspector General (AIG) Gabriel Tommy, with threats that they will hit him with their vehicle.

Count four and five state that they behaved in a riotous manner and obstructed him while he was executing his duty.
