The Sierra Leone Medical and Dental Association (SLMDA) will trigger an indefinite strike action if the Government of Sierra Leone did not meet their demands as against July 31, 2022.
The SLMDA said in statement on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, that their Executive members were invited by the Minister of Health and Sanitations (MoHS), Dr. Austin Demby in a meeting where they said the dialogue did not translate to results as per their demands.
It should be recalled that on July 7,2022, the SLMDA in a press conference demanded that the Government of Sierra Leone provide 45 liters of fuel weekly for doctors and that the fuel allocation should be dissociated from the hospital allocation.
They also demanded that the Ministry of Finance (MoF) reverse the recent deduction from their net monthly take-home pay done on May 2022 to date, a deduction which they said was done abruptly in without consulting the leadership of SLMDA.
SLMDA hoped that their demands are met against midnight of July 31, 2022, to avert the planned strike action, so they therefore assured the general public that SLMDA stand by its previous notice.
