Freetown, Sierra Leone – Don Bosco Fambul, a leading child-welfare organization in Sierra Leone, is making a profound difference in the lives of vulnerable youth, particularly young women rescued from the sex trade. Through comprehensive support programs, the organization provides vocational training in fields such as hotel management, catering, tailoring, and hairdressing, alongside access to formal education.
In a recent initiative, Don Bosco Fambul extended financial aid, food supplies, and clothing to 35 school pupils and 50 skills training students. With contributions from Medicor Foundation, Jugend Eine Welt, and the City of Vienna, each beneficiary received a bag of rice to address their nutritional needs, financial assistance to ease daily expenses, and a package of assorted clothing to restore dignity and comfort. This essential support enables the youth to focus on their personal growth and thrive in their communities.
The organization’s Mobil Project further underscores its commitment to rescuing at-risk youth, such as children living on the streets and girls involved in commercial sex work. The project, focused on rehabilitation and societal reintegration, supported 55 students during the 2024-2025 academic year. These students, spanning primary to senior secondary levels, were provided with school bags, learning materials, and financial aid to cover school fees and associated costs.
A Salesian representative remarked, “This crucial support ensures that these students can concentrate on their education without the burden of financial challenges. This remarkable achievement would not have been possible without the generous contributions of our incredible donors. Their unwavering support is making a lasting impact, transforming lives and paving the way for a brighter future for these children.”
Don Bosco Fambul’s extensive efforts over recent years have impacted nearly 11,000 children and youth, offering assistance to those suffering violations of fundamental rights. Education remains central to the organization’s mission, with a multidisciplinary team of social workers committed to empowering youth and giving them control over their futures.
Additionally, Don Bosco Fambul operates a 24/7 toll-free Childline service (525), accessible nationwide, to support young individuals experiencing violence or in need of urgent help.!
