Haroun Conteh, a driver and businessman, was on Thursday, September 8, 2022 sent to jail by Magistrate Santigie Bangura of Pademba Road Court No3 for allegedly causing grievious bodily harm to one Moses Kamara.
The accused was arraigned on three counts of wounding with intent.
According to the charge on count one the accused Haroun Conteh, alias Wannie, on Monday, September 5, 2022, along Lumley Beach Road, Aberdeen in Freetown wounded Moses Kamara with intent to cause him grievious bodily harm.
The police further alleged on counts two and three that the accused on the same date maliciously wounded and assaulted the complainant in a manner thereby occasioning him actual bodily harm.
When the charges were read to the accused no plea was taken and no legal representation was made on his behalf.
The complainant Moses Kamara led in evidence by Police Constable 15098 Sesay M.A. recognized the accused and recalled that on Monday, September 5, 2022 “I was at the said place [Mamz beach bar] when one white man came and asked me to avoid begging on the street, based on that he gave me seven hundred united state dollars. Having received that money, I placed it in my hand bag with my Techno Spark 7 phone,” he narrated.
According to him, to his surprise the accused came from nowhere and slapped him on his jaw.
The witness said he wanted to retaliate, but those that were present advised him to avoid the accused.
“I was about to go home when the accused came for the second time and took one of my crutches and hit it on my neck which led it to broke. He went further and took my handbag which contained my Techno Spark phone, the US$700 and stab me on my back with a broken bottle,” he said.
Kamara said he immediately ran to the police station and made a report and was issued a police medical request form for treatment at the hospital. He said that the accused was later arrested and brought to the police station.
Police prosecutor informed the court that he will call other witnesses on the next adjourned date.
Magistrate Bangura remanded the accused and adjourned the matter to September 16, 2022, for further hearing.
