BACKGROUND
The FCC EARLY LEARNING ADVENTURE SCHOOLS
Launched in October 2020, the FCC Early Learning Adventure Daycare and Nursery Centres are a pioneering initiative by the Freetown City Council (FCC) to provide free pre-school- Early Childhood Development(ECD) based education for the children of market women and traders. This program was inspired by Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyer’s election campaign, during which she observed that many children under 5 years old spent their days in market stalls with their mothers, missing critical early learning opportunities and starting school much later than their peers.
The centre at Congo Water, serves 40 children aged 0-5, offering hands-on learning activities tailored to nurture motor and cognitive skills. Designed exclusively for children of traders, the only requirement for enrolment is that the mother is an active market trader.
FCC is proud to deliver this transformative program, empowering some of Freetown’s most vulnerable children with a strong educational foundation to help them achieve their full potential.
Job Duties
As an Early Childhood/ Nursery Head Teacher of FCC Early Learning Adventure you are
expected to carry out the following responsibilities:
· Supervise the teachers and caregivers and teach the children in the classroom as directed.
· Provide care and protection for assigned children.
· Supervise the children’s play and learning activities by; participating with children in group
games; enforcing safety rules; encouraging children to develop positive social
relationships with each other, with classroom staff and with visitors.
· Work with staff to develop each individual child’s potential. Bring to the
attention of the Director special problems in adjustment, learning, social
interactions or physical functioning of individual children.
· Maintain assigned progress records on the emotional, physical, social, and
intellectual development of children.
· Participate in staff meetings, parent meetings, training sessions, conferences
and workshops.
· Arrange the environment and prepare supplies for activities. Ensure that
equipment and supplies are accessible and in good condition
· Make daily observations of health of children, reporting conditions that
require attention.
· Take the lead in enforcing policies, implementing curriculum and curating an ECD centred space.
· Perform related duties as assigned.
Supervision
The Early Childhood/Nursery Head Teacher is supervised by the education Department- Freetown City Council
Education and Experience
- The ideal candidate should have a degree in Education/ECD.
- The ideal candidate should have a commendable experience in working with children or in large teams.
- She must possess great morals and values, problem solving skills, negotiation skills, team building capabilities, assertiveness, creativity and good leadership skills.
- At least 4-10 years’ experience in the Sierra Leone Job market especially in the area of teaching young children between the ages of 3 to 5 years.
Qualities and Skills
- Fluent in oral and written English.
- Excellent communication, feedback and reporting skills.
- Must be creative and flexible with good decision making skills.
- Must be detailed oriented.
- Must exhibit high levels of patience, empathy, attentiveness, dependability and trustworthiness.
