Hawa Samba, an estate agent,, made her first appearance before Magistrate Peter Gogra of Pademba road court No.6 in Freetown on one count charge of obtaining money by false pretenses contrary to section 32 (1) of the Larceny Act 1916.
According to the particulars of offence, on diverse dates between 1st to 8th February 2022 in Freetown the accused obtained the sum of NLe18,000 from Joseph Abiola Mabolaji with the pretext of renting him an apartment for two years knowing same to be false.
The charge was read and explained to the accused, and he pleaded not guilty.
Counsel representing the complainant A.R Gbla told the bench that he is ready to lead his witness.
The Defence Counsel A.Kondowa applied for bail for the accused, stating that she is a Sierra Leonean resident within the jurisdiction of the court and she will not jumped bail. He said that accused has reliable and credible sureties who are willing and ready to go into recognisance. he made his application pursuant to section 79 (3) of the Criminal Procedure Act No.32 of 1965.
Magistrate Gogra granted the accused person bail in the sum of NLe10,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The matter was adjourned to November 14, 2022, for further hearing.
