The European Union Delegation Sierra Leone in partnership with Premier Media Group Limited has trained journalists on skills and tools on reporting EU activities.
The two-day training which ended on Thursday was funded by the European Union. The trainingbrought together journalists from both the print and electronic media from across the country at the Harry Yansaneh Hall in Freetown.
Head of Political, Press and Information, EU Delegation, Juan Antonio Goldaratz, said that the training was a very good initiative that would enhance better understanding of the EU activities in Sierra Leone, adding that there had been lack of better understanding among people globally on the activities of EU.
He said that Journalists who had been trained would be able to inform and educate the public on EU’s activities on development, human rights, democracy and political governance.
“Journalist would be equipped with techniques to focus on human interest stories that benefits society and the country as a whole,” Goldaratz said.
Commenting on some of the activities of the European Union, Goldaratz cited that they have created a platform for future generation to be able to use natural resources and protect the environment from climate change.
Goldaratz noted that the EU works with Sierra Leone on shared value.
Managing Director Premier Media Group, Dr. Julius Spencer, also mentioned that at the end of the training, journalist would be able to report and broadcast European Union activities effectively.
“The training is not only to improve skills of journalists on EU reporting but they would also be capacitated with required skills and technique in journalism reporting,” Dr. Spencer said.
