Security forces have shot dead Hassan S. Dumbuya aka Evangelist Samson, an ardent critic of Bio Administration, in the northern city of Makeni on Sunday, August 14, 2022, according to eyewitnesses.
The incident was said to have occurred in front of a merchandise shop on Station Road.
Another eyewitness account stated that the assailants took the victim from his pool of blood and went away.
The incident marks the second time a civilian is apparently being shut by security forces. The first was reported on Thursday morning at Rogbaneh Road where a youth by the name of Alie was taken from his room and executed for reasons the family of the said deceased said are unknown.
The Sierra Leone Police said in a statement on Monday that Security forces, acting on intelligence, stormed a place where ex-combatants had assembled to organize further attacks, noting that on their arrival the ex-combatants took to their heels.
“While they were being pursued by the security forces, another group from a makeshift structure at Station Road in Makeni opened fire on them [security forces]. During the crossfire, one Hassan S. Dumbuya aka Evangelist Samson was killed and four others were arrested. Those arrested are now helping the Police with investigation. One (1) light sub machine gun 9x26mm was found at the scene of the incident (Makeshift structure),” the Police said in the statement.
Evangelic Samson was accused of being behind August 10 protests in which led to the killing of six police officers and at least 22 civilians.
His video and audio recordings are popular among supporters and sympathisers of the APC.
