Yusif Abdulai Kamara, a farmer, was on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 sent to prison by Magistrate Mark Ngegba of Pademba Road Court No1 for allegedly defrauding US Citizens Chavonna Frazier over Le 400 million for land.
The accused made his first appearance in court and was arraigned on one count of fraudulent conversion contrary to section 20 of the Larceny Act 1916.
According to the particulars of offence, the accused on a date unknown between 1st and 31st March 2021, in Freetown fraudulently converted the sum of $21,200 USD equivalent to Le 424,400 entrusted to him by Chavonna Frazier for the purpose of purchasing a parcel of land in Freetown for an organization called Sierra Leone Ancestor Investors Association base in California United States of America.
When the charge was read to the accused no plea was taken.
Defense counsels Koroma applied for bail on his behalf pursuant to section 79 of the Criminal Procedure Act No 32 of 1965.
He also informed the bench that they are ready to pay the complainant her money noting that they have already paid Le 30 million to the police at CID which he said they will bring to the court on the next adjourned date.
The complainant in reply said all what she wants is her money.
Magistrate Ngegba however remanded the accused in prison and adjourned the matter to 13th July for further hearing.
