Mohamed Sow, a filmmaker in Freetown, has on Saturday July 20, 2024, revealed that he is working on a movie titled ‘The First Lady’ which will raise awareness against child marriage in Sierra Leone.
He furthered that he is collaborating with Naomi Mansaray and other filmmakers to complete the movie, which he predicts would most likely be released in September 2024.
Sow informed this medium that about 70% of the project has already been completed, and added that the movie is about an African woman who sacrificed her time and resources to save the future of girl- victims rape and forced marriages.
Sow furthered that the movie discourages rape on girls and discourages their parents from sending off to marital homes at an age when they ought to be acquiring an education.
He added that the movie also highlights the negative effects of early marriage and rape, and begged stakeholders, parents and other bodies to contest rape and early marriage, and commented that helping a female child achieve her dream equates to helping the entire society.
Sow explained that the idea behind making the movie came from the First Lady Madam Fatima Bio.
“The idea of making this movie is to complement the efforts of Madam Fatima Bio who has been working tirelessly to protect the future of our young sisters in Sierra Leone. Let us share the message that a real man should not rape or marry an underage child, but a real man should go all out to support girls achieve their dreams,” Sow said.
As a filmmaker, Sow said that helping the first lady’s fight against rape and early marriage in Sierra Leone is a way to contribute to the development of Sierra Leone.
