Five Remanded in Case of Theft at EDSA

Emmanuel Sorie Kamara, Melvin Philip, Alie Koroma, Mark Sahr Njah and Abdul Bangura have on Monday 12th August 2024 been remanded by Magistrate Santigie Bangura of Pademba Road Court No.2 for allegedly stealing a drum of cable from the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority substation at Goderich.

The accused persons were arraigned for Conspiracy, Larceny and Unlawful Possession.

The charges against the convict indicated that the crime occurred on Monday 22nd July 2024 at Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority EDSA substation in Goderich in the western area in Freetown conspired with other persons to commit the crime of Larceny.

The police further said that on the same date stole cables worth Le 12, 000 property of EDSA.

It was also alleged on the 3rd count that the fifth accused person on the same date and place was found in possession of a role of black cable suspected to have been unlawfully obtained from Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA).  

Counts four  further stated that on the same date and place the fifth accused person was  found in possession of five small roles of cables, ninety two pieces of connectors, fifteen screw installations and four brown circles suspected to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained.

The charges were read and explained to the accused persons. They pleaded not guilty. Counsel representing the accused persons Chernor Kamara, applied for bail on their behalf pursuant to section 79 sub-section 2 of the Criminal procedure Act No.32 of 1965

Magistrate Bangura having listened to the application refused to admit the accused persons to bail considering the nature of the offences and the institution involved, except for the 4th accused person who was already on bail.

He however granted him bail in the sum of Le 22,000, the sureties must be resident in Freetown and must be responsible citizens and the matter was adjourned to the 19th of August 2024.
