As Sierra Leone grabs third place Trophy and a number of unshared gains at the Nigeria Women’s T20 International Tournament 2023, former Chairman of the Sierra Leone Cricket Association, Beresford Bournes-Coker, has called on the First Lady of Sierra Leone Fatima Bio to take an interest in women’s cricket, as it is a good domain to help spread the ideals around the Hands Off Our Girls Campaign.
He says: “I wish the First Lady can take an interest in Women’s cricket, as there can be no truer example of an avenue depicting her call for the women’s Hands off Our Girls campaign.”
It could be recalled that the Sierra Leone Cricket Association went to the Nigeria Women’s T20 International Tournament with Sierra Leone sweeps nine historic titles to end ten-day phenomenal fight.
The Ladies Patriots of Sierra Leone entered the Lagos Showpiece with the game-plan to execute the basics.
The following are the nine titles the country seized at the Tournament:
1. Lady Alice Fillie won Best Bowler of the Tournament, pulling a bowling economy of 3.2.
2. The Tournament only sixer Celina Bull grabbed the third Best Fielder.
3. Janet Kowa secured the second Best Player of the Tournament award, after winning two Woman of the Match awards.
4. Three Sierra Leonean players, Captain Fatmata Parkinson, Celina Bull and Emma Kamara appeared among the top ten batters of the Tournament.
5. Alice Fillie, Janet Kowa and Fatu Pessima are rated among the top ten of bowlers with exceptional deliveries.
6. Three Sierra Leonean players, Alice Fillie, Captain Fatmata Parkinson, and Janet Kowa formed part of the *Team of the Tournament*, indicating the effects of good coaching as indicated by Head Coach Kenneth Masinga.
7. Sierra Leone presented the only team in the entire tournament to win with nine wickets.
8. It presented the only team in the entire tournament to score a boundary six.
9. After a fight of its kind, the Ladies Patriots delivered bronze for Sierra Leone.
Sierra Leone has left an indelible footprint on the landmass of Nigeria, sweeping titles to the surprise of fellow competitors.
