By Desmond Tunde Coker

Freetown, Sierra Leone — In a significant move to foster human capital development, the Freetown City Council (FCC), in partnership with Emerging Leaders UK, delivered a transformative “Leadership for Life” training program for youth and women. Held from October 29 to 31, the three-day workshop engaged 215 participants from city markets, universities, and local communities, offering a diverse group the chance to enhance their leadership skills.

The program focused on practical topics, including “Personal Leadership,” “Managing Your Money,” and “Managing Small Projects,” designed to equip attendees with critical life skills for business management and career development. This initiative aligns with FCC’s Transform Freetown vision, aiming to create 120,000 decent jobs for women and youth by 2028.

FCC expressed plans to expand its support with future training programs, reinforcing its commitment to providing both soft and hard skills to empower Freetown’s women and youth and to help achieve the city’s ambitious job creation targets.
