A team of German doctors and Choithram Memorial Hospital have provided free medical procedures to dozens of less privileged Sierra Leoneans.
The medical camp at the Choithram Hospital was facilitated by Dr. M’baimba Lamin Baryoh, Sierra Leonean Ambassador to Germany, in collaboration with Interplast Germany.
The German team comprises nine specialists, including Dr. Med Lutz Gruhl, Dr. Bernd Heidemann, Dr. Olaf Weigt, Dr. Karolina Lischka, Dr. Franziska von Sievers, Mr. Nikolaus Brunner, Mrs. Andrea Schmidt, Dr. Friedrich Matthaei, and Mrs. Monika Schäfer.
The German medical team are working with local doctors and nurses at the Choithram Hospital during the two-week medical camp.
The aim of the medical camp is to provide reconstructive surgeries to those who heeded prior notice put out by the Management of the hospital. The German Medical Team has been in the country since January 9, 2024. Some members of the team will depart the country today while others will stay for a few days to continue providing service to patients.
The Trustee of Hospital, Harish Agnani said that all the operations conducted during the medical camp were done free of cost. He said that the follow-up medical services for patients who benefited from the medical camp will also be provided free of cost by the hospital.
Specialized treatments are administered to patients suffering from post-burn contractures; hand, feet or wrist disorders or deformities; hand and feet tumors and cleft lip and palate.
This is not the first time the team has been in Sierra Leone to Provide free medical proceduces to patients. The team was also in the country last year.
The German medical team also provide medical instruments worth US$15,000 to the hospital.
