Freetown, Sierra Leone – Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama arrived in Sierra Leone yesterday for an official visit aimed at bolstering relations between the two West African nations. The visit is expected to enhance cooperation in trade, infrastructure, and regional affairs.
Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Special Aide to President Mahama, confirmed the visit in a Facebook post on March 18, 2025. She stated that discussions between President Mahama and Sierra Leonean President Julius Maada Bio would focus on areas of mutual interest, including economic partnerships, social infrastructure, and regional collaboration.
The relationship between Ghana and Sierra Leone has been characterized by mutual support during times of crisis and joint development efforts. In January 2025, President Bio attended President Mahama’s inauguration in Accra, further solidifying the strong ties between the two nations.
President Mahama’s visit aims to build on this foundation, fostering economic growth and stability in the region. Both countries are key members of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), and their collaboration is seen as vital to advancing peace and development across West Africa.
