Govt Funds Construction of Bridges in Bailor

On June 25, 2022, the stakeholders of Lokomasama Chiefdom, Port Loko District launched the reconstruction of the bridges in Bailor. The ceremony took place at Bailor wharf in the Yurika section , Lokomasama Chiefdom.

Bailor community can be described as fishing community with economic viability, but it lacks toilet facility, proper sanitation, pure drinking water and solar electricity.

These challenges were underscored during the launching ceremony with attracted stakeholders of Yurika section and executive of Sierra Leone People’s Party in Constituency 074.

Mammoth crown from Bailor and sister communities welcomed the delegation headed by Mr Mohamed Alpha Gasama, a businessman, developmental ambassador of Lokomasama and a politician.

In his open statement, Mr Gasama said that he was overwhelmed with the turnout during the launching ceremony. He said that the project is fully sponsored by government of Sierra Leone through President Julius Maada Bio and Vice President Dr Mohamed Judith Jallon.

Mr Gassama expressed gratitude to the vice president for improving the dilapidated structures in the Chiefdom. He further spoke about projects implemented by the government, including the construction of a hundred bed hospital, Magbele Bridge, iron factory,  solar college at Konta village, girl school, extension of Lungi airport, and construction of bridge at Bakinaya village, among others.

Mr Gasama said that construction of three bridges at Bailor will last for four months. He said that the bridges when complete will connect 88 villages at Yurika section, increase the accessibility of vehicles, improve trade and revamp economic activities. He stressed that the project was facilitated by the vice president who is a son of the soil.

The Regent Chief of Lokomasama chiefdom, Pa Bockarie Bangura expressed gratitude to the vice president and government. He said that Lokomasama chiefdom was isolated by the previous government for development.

He said that by  addressing the felt needs of the chiefdom, the SLPP  will be popular in the chiefdom and district as a whole.
