Groovy Colours to Join Forces with Drucil Taylor Esq. for Live Concert

Freetown – The Groovy Colours Band, nurtured by the Ballanta Academy of Music and Performing Arts, will collaborate with distinguished lawyer and musician Drucil Taylor Esq. for a highly anticipated live music concert on Saturday, March 1, 2025. The event, aimed at both entertain and educate audiences about the significance of music, will be held at the Ballanta Logie Wright Auditorium, 27 Liverpool Street, Freetown.

Promising an evening of extraordinary musical artistry, dynamic performances, and cultural celebration, the concert is scheduled to begin at 7:30 PM, with tickets priced at an affordable NLe200. Organized by the Ballanta Academy, the concert underscores the academy’s commitment to promoting Sierra Leonean talent and fostering a vibrant music scene.

David Solomon Koroma, popularly known as Double King and the director of the Groovy Colours Band, expressed his excitement about the event. “This is more than just a concert. It’s a celebration of the creativity and resilience of Sierra Leonean musicians. Groovy Colours Band is excited to deliver a night that our fans will never forget. We’ve been rehearsing tirelessly to ensure that the audience experiences the very best of live music,” he shared.

Established in 2009 by Mrs. Annick Langlotz, a Swiss volunteer at Ballanta, the Groovy Colours Band initially set out to use music as a medium for education and entertainment. The band has since grown into a ten-member ensemble, including notable musicians such as Leslie Cummings-Wray on bass, Musa Ganda on trombone and sound engineering, and Michael Kamara on drums.

Double King explained the origin of the band’s name: “Groovy Colours reflects the diversity of the band, which originally included both black and white musicians, all united by their passion for groovy music.” The band’s repertoire spans Afro-pop, reggae, jazz, and contemporary popular music, alongside original compositions rooted in Sierra Leonean traditions.

As the premier band of the Ballanta Academy, the Groovy Colours Band has solidified its reputation as one of Sierra Leone’s most versatile and dynamic music ensembles. The band achieved international recognition by winning First Prize in the Chinese Bridge Global Music Programme’s International Music Talent Video Competition in October 2020.

Drucil Taylor Esq, an accomplished musician known for soulful performances and magnetic stage presence, will be a key feature of the concert. His collaboration with the Groovy Colours Band is expected to deliver a unique blend of musical styles, creating an unforgettable experience for attendees.
