The first High Court Sittings (Circuit Court) in Bunumbu Town, Peje West Chiefdom, Kailahun District has commenced on Augus10, 2022 and will end on Friday, August 12, 2022.
The Resident High Court Judge of Kailahun District will preside over 11 cases, including two (2) murder, two (2) sexual penetration, one (1) wounding withIntent and larceny. This is the first time since the country’s independence for Court sittings to commence in the entire Bunumbu township.
During the Court sittings, the accused persons will have legal representation as well as the complainants on free basis.
The Criminal Sessions of the High Court is fully funded by the Judiciary of Sierra Leone and is geared to addressing overcrowding in Correctional Centres. It is held in places where there are no sitting Judges.
This is part of the Hon. Chief Justice, His Lordship Justice Desmond Babatunde Edwards’ efforts in taking justice to the doorsteps of residents of the respective localities.
The Judiciary assured the public that access to justice and expeditious trials would always be enhanced to achieving its objectives.
