Husband’s Assault leads to Wife’s Death

Magistrate Sahr Kekura of Ross Road Court No.1 has remanded Abubakar Mansaray  at the Male Correctional Centre on Pademba Road in Freetown  for allegedly assaulting his wife, Aminata Kamara which led to her death.
The incident occurred on the 24th of December, 2022 at Small Country Mabureh in Waterloo  on the outskirts of Freetown.
According to the police , the accused on the said date assaulted his wife, Aminata Kamara of the same address who subsequently passed away.
The accused appeared before the court on a count of murder contrary to law.
It was alleged by the Police that Abubakar Mansaray, on the same date and place , in Waterloo assaulted his wife leading to her death.
Led in evidence by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Osman M. Bangura the first prosecution witness Detective Sergeant 10617 Suliaman Ishmael attached to the Regional Ross Road Police Station, Harbour Division in Freetown at the Criminal Investigation Department ( CID) said he knew the complainant and recognized the accused in the dock. Sergeant Alie said that he recalled Wednesday 18th January 2023, while he was on duty at the aforesaid division at the Ross Road Police Station, his boss, Inspector M. K.  Sesay received a transfer and enquiry file from Waterloo Police Division of an alleged murder together with Abubakar Mansaray the accused person.
The witness told the court that the matter had been assigned to him for further investigation, adding that the file contained the cause of death certificate,  the accused’s voluntary caution statement , statements of the complainant and witnesses.
The statements were produced and tendered to form part of the court’s records.
He furthered that on the18th of August 2023 Sergeant Alie said himself and Police Constable (PC) 12114 Jalloh S. based on the evidence gathered, charged the accused with the offence of murder contrary to law.
The accused’s charge statement was produced and tendered in evidence marked C1-3.
Magistrate Kekura granted an opportunity to the accused to cross examine the witness on his behalf since no solicitor was representing him.
In response, the accused told the court that he had no questions for the witness .
Magistrate Kekura did not admit the accused bail and remanded him at the Male Correctional Centre on Pademba Road in Freetown.
The matter was adjourned to the 6th September  2023.
