IsDB, S/Leone Join Forces to Boost Socioeconomic Development

Vienna, Austria, 24 June 2024 – The Government of Sierra Leone and the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) will partner to boost the country’s socioeconomic development. This was part of the discussion between the  President of Sierra Leone, Dr Julius Maada Bio, and IsDB Group Chairman, H.E. Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser.

The meeting took place in the Austrian capital Vienna on June 24, 2024, on the sidelines of the Arab Coordination Group (ACG) Heads of Institutions meeting as well as the OPEC Fund for Development International Forum.

At the meeting, IsDB Group Chairman expressed appreciation for Sierra Leone’s support of the IsDB Group and for the mutual development cooperation that has been growing steadily.

Dr. Al Jasser further expressed IsDB’s readiness to provide support to Sierra Leone in implementing its Medium-Term National Development Plan 2024-2030, titled “A Transformative Acceleration Agenda for Food Security, Human Capital Development, and Job Creation.”

The two parties agreed that a stronger and enhanced cooperation between the IsDB Group and Sierra Leone should focus more on bilateral and regional initiatives, particularly in the sectors of agriculture and infrastructure.

IsDB Group’s total financing to Sierra Leone since it joined the Bank in 1982 amounts to USD 351 million, including 79  projects (out of which 62 are completed and 17 projects are under implementation), covering various economic and social development sectors.
