Kahunla Queens Open Female League with 1-0 Victory

By Desmond Tunde Coker

The first Female Football League in Sierra Leone kicked off in Makeni’s Wusum Field on Saturday, October 15th, 2022 with Mena Queens of Makeni losing by a lone goal to Kahunla Queens of Kenema.

The visitors took the lead in the 84th minute against the run of play after Mena Queens had put up a very good performance in both halves, but wasted their chances.

Kahunla Queens had their fair share of possession and created a couple of chances in both halves.  The visitors fielded a host of players that had had national call ups in the past; such as Kadiatu Kamara, Adama Jalloh, Kumba Brima and Sarah Sesay, but the young and dynamic girls of Mena had to push them until the 84th minute when Matilda Kabba, in the 11 Jersey , scored for Kahunla Queens through a brilliant volley on the break. The one goal was enough to help Kahunla carry all three points. Matilda Kabba won the player of the match award.

It could be recalled that Kahunla Queens had played a recent friendly encounter running up to the start of the League in which they defeated Mena by a 4-1 margin.
