Freetown, Sierra Leone – Businessman Musa Koroma testified yesterday before Magistrate Sahr Kekura of Pademba Road Court against three accused persons in a case involving the alleged theft of $7,000 from the home of Kai Kamara.

The accused, Abubakarr Turay who is Kamara’s caretaker, his wife Fatmata Bangura, and their daughter Kadiatu Turay, were arraigned on charges of conspiracy to commit a crime and larceny, both in violation of the Larceny Act of 1916.

Koroma, who knows the complainant and the accused, recalled the events of January 11, 2025, when he was at Kamara’s home. He stated that he was in the parlor with Kamara, who went to bath. Shortly after, Kamara called the caretaker. Within minutes, the caretaker and his daughter were found crying. Kamara explained to Koroma that the accused had stolen his money. Koroma then attempted to question them, but the caretaker had disappeared, leaving only Bangura and her daughter in tears.

Kamara called the police, instructing everyone to remain in the compound until they arrived. Upon arrival, the police searched the house and found $100 in Bangura’s bag. During a further search, they discovered 11,150 Leone, which Bangura claimed belonged to her husband.

Koroma testified that the police took the accused to the station for further investigation. Despite initial denials, Bangura later admitted that the money found in her bag was taken from Kamara’s pocket while laundering his clothes.

On the same night, Koroma called Turay, who maintained his innocence. The following morning, he visited the police station to speak with Bangura and her daughter.

Defense lawyer Yasim applied for bail for all accused persons, but Magistrate Kekura denied the request. The three individuals remain in custody, and the matter has been adjourned to February 11, 2025, for further hearing.

The charges relate to an alleged theft on January 15, 2025, at Fadika Drive, Hill Station, Freetown, where the prosecution claims the accused conspired to steal US$7,000 (Le170,100) belonging to Kamara. During the court hearing, Turay pleaded not guilty, while Bangura and Kadiatu Turay admitted to the offense.
