Lawmakers on Tuesday debated the Bill entitled ‘The Child Rights Act, 2024’.
The Bill seeks to repeal and replace the Child Rights Act, 2007 (Act No.7 2007), to make provisions for the promotion of the rights and responsibilities of children and the obligation of the State to provide for such rights as outlined in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and the African Charter on the Right and Welfare of Children.
The Bill is the outcome of the review process of the Child Rights Act (CRA) 2007.
Based on the major gaps revealed in the content and implementation of the 2007 Act, the new Bill proposes crucial reforms that aim to protect and promote the rights and responsibilities of every child in Sierra Leone.
