Leelia’s Glow, an institution promoting Sierra Leone culture, on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at Kallon Car Park in Aberdeen in the west of Freetown held an entertainment exhibition.
It was titled: Fashion, Cultural Arts and Music Exhibition 2022.
The exhibition which featured Dance, Fashion, Poetry, and Music, attracted renowned local musicians and entertainers, including: Fantacee Wiz, a renowned local Folk singer; Anord K. Fofanah, another famous local musician; Team Apple Jazz Band, and many more.
According to Enoch Dumbuya, the event manager, the exhibition was aimed at encouraging Sierra Leoneans to learn about their culture and heritage. He said that they realized that some people had forgotten their culture and followed the European’s ways of behaving, which he said had no positive effect on Sierra Leone and its people. He explained, “We noticed that Sierra Leonean’s culture had already been eliminated by the western civilization, and the only way to restore that is to be doing such event in the country frequently. Now in Sierra Leone, only few people can proudly wear local clothes, shoe etc. made in the country. Some people don’t even eat our locally made foods.”
He said that for one to practice his own culture, could not only help sell the image of the country out but could also help promote its local content as well as attract tourists.
“Even though we are civilized now, but we should not neglect our culture; because it is what makes us Sierra Leoneans,” he concluded. Mariatu Kamara, who witnessed event, said that she was very impressed by Leelia’s Glow innovative ideas. “I am surprised to see only locally made foods in such a big event, which I have not seen in all the shows I have been attending. Also, the clothes, shoes and bags made by our own Sierra Leoneans are very amazing. This is what we should be doing if we love to promote our culture,” she said.
