Local Musician to Set up Music Studio

Gibril Aruna Kargbo, aka Coco Rhymes, a singer and song writer has on Friday January 15, 2022 announced that he is soon to open a music studio name Wild Play Entertainment. He hopes that opening the studio will support musicians in Sierra Leone and the music industry in general.

According to Kargbo, the experience he has had in music encouraged her to help talented up and coming musicians who otherwise would find it difficult to do good songs.

“I am a living example. Before now, I used to struggle a lot in the music industry. There are lots of talented musicians in Sierra Leone some of them quit music while others die without actualising the full potential of their talent as a result of lack of support.  To change this situation and help my country, I have come with Wild Play Entertainment,” he said.

Kargbo started his career as a musician in 2015. He revealed that his relatives spotted that he had a melodious voice and they encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He added that he drew great motivation from his grandfather who was also a musician, who played on the ‘Condi’ a local musician. “I was really inspired by my grandfather’s good works which I was told about,” he said

Kargbo sings genres like Afro and Rnb. He said the songs he produces are mainly based on his life experiences which end up inspiring and enlightening the youth.

He has done a song titled ‘U Mama Know’, which sheds light on drug abuse by young people in the country which was a big hit. Others are ‘One Fine Day’, ‘Woman Nor to Man Padi’, ’Booty Bag’, ‘U Dae Witch’ and many more.

He further stated that he had featured other Sierra Leonean musicians like Star Zero in a song titled ‘Na Malice’, Bed & Strokes in a song titled ‘U Mama Know’, and Succulent in the song ‘slow poison’.

Kargbo explained that due to his restless efforts in the entertainment industry, he had won many music awards. In 2011 he got his first award as Best Live Rnb Singer, and in 2013 in an Icon singing competition, an award organized by Radio Democracy in 2017, he won the category for Best Male Vocalist.

Also in 2019 he was awarded Best New Artist, with the song ‘U Mama Know’, which also bagged the award for Best Hit Song on the same night.

In March 2020, he was also nominated Best Hit Song and Best Collaboration of the year. So with all these experiences, he believes  that he is in the best position to help the music  industry in Sierra Leone and musicians.
