On March 8, 2025, Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr OBE celebrated International Women’s Day in Kenema District alongside members of the APC Women’s Congress from across Sierra Leone. The event, which saw participation from women leaders representing remote constituencies as well as those leading districts and regions, provided a platform for discussing the significant role of women in politics, the challenges they face, and opportunities for “accelerating action,” the theme for this year’s International Women’s Day.
