The matter between the state and the Mayor of Freetown Yvonne Aki- Sawyer came up again yesterday before Magistrate Mark Ngegba of Pademba Road Court No.1 and was adjourned because state prosecutor was absent in court.
Shortly after the matter was mentioned by the court clerk, state Counsel Jesse Tucker said the substantive prosecutor Yusuf Isaac Sesay is out of the jurisdiction and sought a week adjournment of the matter.
The sitting Mayor was present in the court and her lawyer Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara suggested that the matter been adjourned to November 25, 2022. His request was granted by the Magistrate.
The mayor was arraigned on two counts of obstruction of police and disorderly behavior contrary to law.
The chargesheet indicated that Yvonne Aki Sawyer on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at the Airport Police Station obstructed Sergeant 7966 Richard Junior Caulker and Corporal 12225 Fanta Fofanah while executing their lawful duties.
The chargesheet added that Madam Sawyer on the same day and place behaved in a disorderly manner.
