Freetown, March 13, 2025 – The Ministry of Employment, Labour, and Social Security (MELSS) has raised concerns over Koidu Limited’s handling of an industrial dispute, accusing the company’s management of undermining negotiation efforts and issuing threatening statements that have strained worker relations.

In a recent notice, MELSS highlighted its continued efforts to mediate between the company and its workforce to prevent a potential strike. Negotiations, including discussions with Koidu Limited’s Board of Directors, initially showed promise but have since been marred by claims of intimidation and a lack of cooperation. The ministry also criticized the company for labeling the strike as illegal and for allegedly interfering with workers’ union activities, which led to significant employee dissatisfaction.

Despite the setbacks, MELSS emphasized its commitment to a peaceful resolution and urged Koidu Limited to engage constructively in the negotiation process. Assuring support for the company’s personnel and operations, the ministry called for management to prioritize reconciliation and pave the way for employees to return to work.
