A total of 165 school-going children have benefited from the Choithram Scholarship Fund which was provided by the Choithram International Foundation each year to less privileged and excellent pupils.
Like previous years, the Foundation has also paid fees for a medical student amounting to Le7, 500,000.
The Financial Controller of the Choithram Group, Harish Agnani said that Choithram Scholarship Fund is a regular gesture from the Choithram International Foundation set up by the Late Mr. T. Choithram Pagarari.
He said that every year funds are allocated to assist needy school going children-going children which is in line with the vision of Late Mr. T Choithram Pagarari to improve on education and health facilities in Sierra Leone.
“This year, Le 110,000,000 has been allocated by the Foundation. Choithram International Foundation has been regularly funding the Choithram Scholarship Fund since its inception in 1967,” Agnani said.
“Choithram International Foundation also provides funds not only for the day to day running of the Choithram Memorial Hospital but also to procure modern medical equipment to upgrade the facilities at the hospital to international standards,” he said, adding that apart from this, Choithram Charity trust also supplies foodstuff to the Home of the Aged and children’s home every month. “All of these are considered part of the Social Corporate Responsibility by the Choithram Group.”
He said that the Choithram International Foundation is thankful to the members of the Committee who have been working relentlessly over the years to ensure that this exercise is a success.
The Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Choithram Scholarship Fund, E. Palmer told the beneficiaries that they must do well in school for them to continue to qualify for the fund. She urged parents to give time to their children to study, ensure they attend school regularly and assist them with their school work.
Parents of beneficiaries recognised the members of the Choithram International Foundation and the founder late Mr. T. Choithram Pagarari for supporting their children.
Scholarships were awarded to primary and secondary school pupils.
